From Italys Campsites To The Catwalk

The show was part of the Milan Fashion Week and brought about a new buzzword that combines glamour and camping to give you ‘glamping’. This means outfits put together from elements like hardwearing jeans, cargo shorts and lumberjack-style peaked hats.

Waterproof Clothes

One example of the garments on show is a pair of jeans with the trouser legs coated in bright waterproof plastic: a kind of trouser and Wellington boot hybrid. The idea behind them is that they can serve as fashionable protection in inclement weather. However, these trousers may be more appropriate garb for the campsites in Italys northern regions where you can spend your time hiking and boating.

For example, just an hour and a half to the north of the catwalks in Milan is the picturesque landscape of Lake Maggiore. Its unlikely youll find many supermodels on a camping holiday here, just happy campers appreciating the fresh air, stunning scenery and good facilities at the Isolino Camping Village, Lake Maggiore. This campsite, in Italys Lombardy region on the Swiss border, boasts facilities such as Internet access, family barbecues and a restaurant with a pizzeria so you can enjoy the cuisine of Italy. The campsite provides entertainment and activities such as aerobics, aqua aerobics, football and volleyball. Holidaymakers staying here can also try canoeing on the lake, or take a pedalo out on the water if they dont fancy grappling with oars. Whether they choose to wear silver boots and a shirt made of hats is up to them.

One of the stranger combinations of garments in the Milan show was a bikini accessorized with a transparent souwester. The association of wet weather with camping may be unfair, but certainly campsites in Italy have plenty to offer campers who want to use their swimming costumes on holiday. There are a number of campsites across the country with their own swimming complexes, which may include lagoon-shaped pools, fun water slides, separate areas for children, and lazy river channels. Some sites have Olympic-sized pools, too.

Glamorous Camping Accommodation

It wasnt just the models on the catwalk that were dressed up to suit the outdoor life; the stage of the Milan fashion show was also decked-out to match the camping theme. At the back of the catwalk were a number of canvas tents made more glamorous with crystal chandeliers.
Thankfully, the real campsites in Italy are luxurious in a more practical way, going without the ornamental lights in favour of facilities like spacious fridge freezers, flat screen TVs and DVD units. You can find these items in the Deluxe Mobile Homes, which are both spacious and comfortable. The classic mobile homes are smartly turned-out too, with a well-equipped kitchen, a living room, bathroom, and two stylish bedrooms. What you hang in the wardrobe is up to you.
